DISCIPLES’ PANTRY

WOODSTOWN, NEW JERSEY

Neighbors Helping Neighbors

In 2002 a small group decided to form the Disciples’ Pantry to address the needs of hungry families in Woodstown and Pilesgrove on a weekly basis.  This was later expanded to include others that can come on a monthly basis.

With the current economy the number of families in need has increased.  We have increased the initial number of families from 10- 30 families each Tuesday to between 50-80 each day we are open.  Some weeks we exceed even that figure.

This pantry does not receive any governmental assistance except for the annual Postal Service’s food drive.  All of our monetary and item contributions are made by local churches, schools, businesses, children’s groups, organizations, and individuals.

We are located in the basement of the Asbury United Methodist Church, located at 149 South Main Street, Woodstown, NJ 08098.  Our hours of operation are on Tuesday between 10-12 and 4-6.  We are only closed on National Holidays or very bad weather.

It should be noted that 100% of each contribution is given to the needy.  The church provides the space and utilities, and the volunteers (including Executive Board), receive no compensation of any sort.  It is only through the hard work and generosity of others can we help prevent food insecurity for the adults and children that utilize our services.

We have no facilities to store perishable food items.  Occasionally we receive some fruits and vegetables on Tuesday morning during the summer from local farmers and other organizations… Unless it can be delivered on Tuesday morning and given out by the end of the day, the item cannot be kept for the next week.

We will accept cash (pennies to bills), checks, or any kind of non-perishable food item (as well as normal household and toiletry items).  Checks can be made out to the “The Disciples’ Pantry” and these, and any cash, can be sent to the Church Secretary’s office or delivered to the pantry during normal hours of operation.

If you have any questions or concerns please give me a call at home (856-769-2559).  I would like to see what I can do to assist you in helping your neighbors. I am also available to pick up any monetary or food donations at your location at your convenience.
